Despite record oil production in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico in 2025, experts predict that output will decline in the coming years due to a decrease in the number of operators and delays in new projects. To sustain industry production, new wells and continued investment are essential.
Equinor has signed agreements with 18 contractors for well maintenance services worth approximately 17 billion Norwegian kroner, aiming to sustain production at 1.2 million barrels per day until 2035. Around 2,500 specialists will participate in these projects, and the new wells are expected to provide up to 70% of the company’s production by 2035.
