One of the most massive black holes has been discovered
Astronomers have discovered a black hole in a distant galaxy with a mass of about 50 billion solar masses—making it one of the most massive ever found. There may also be another supermassive black hole in the same galaxy.

Astronomers have discovered a black hole with a mass of about 50 billion solar masses in a distant galaxy. It is believed that this galaxy may also contain another supermassive black hole.
Black holes are among the most mysterious and powerful objects in the Universe. Recent research has revealed an object with a record-breaking mass in a faraway galaxy.
The galaxy, designated A402-BCG, is located approximately 4.4 billion light-years from Earth and is part of the Abell 402 galaxy cluster. At the center of this galaxy, two features stand out: a bright point source and a dark region spanning a kiloparsec to the east of this source.
Using the James Webb and Hubble space telescopes, scientists determined that the bright source is associated with an ultramassive black hole, whose mass is estimated to be around 50 billion times that of the Sun.
This discovery is significant, as it concerns one of the most massive black holes known to date. For comparison, the mass of this black hole is 25 times greater than the combined mass of all the stars in the Large Magellanic Cloud, which is about 158,000 light-years from Earth. The Milky Way’s mass ranges from 100 to 400 billion solar masses, highlighting the immense scale of the discovered object.
Additionally, a large cavity was found in the A402-BCG galaxy. According to experts, a second supermassive black hole may be located at its center.
