Samsung Heavy Industries is in negotiations with Delfin regarding the potential supply of a second and third floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) plant for the Delfin LNG export project in the United States.

Earlier this week, Delfin and Samsung signed a contract for the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation of the first FLNG vessel for Delfin LNG. The contract is valued at $2.9 billion. The investment decision for this project was made following the approval of the first offshore LNG project in the US.

Currently, discussions are underway about the possibility of building two more similar facilities, which Delfin plans to implement in stages. Samsung Heavy Industries is expected to play a key role in developing the LNG value chain in North America and to strengthen its market position, given the likelihood of receiving additional orders.

The company notes that FLNG projects in the US, starting with Delfin LNG, are expected to see active development, which could contribute to medium- and long-term revenue growth thanks to Samsung’s strong competitiveness in this sector.

The first Delfin FLNG vessel will have a nominal capacity of 4.4 million tons per year. The total project capacity is estimated at 13.2 million tons per year, suggesting similar parameters for the next two units.

Deliveries of liquefied natural gas from the first phase of the export project in the US Gulf of Mexico, with an estimated cost of $5 billion, are expected by 2030. Delfin plans to make investment decisions on the second and third FLNG units during the remainder of this year.

The contract signing ceremony was attended by leading global partners, highlighting the technological capabilities of FLNG and the potential for Samsung Heavy Industries’ project execution. The company intends to continue showcasing its capabilities through high-quality and timely product delivery.
