The rise in memory prices has slowed for the first time in six months
After a prolonged period of rising prices for RAM and storage devices, the German market has recorded the first decrease in DDR5 module prices in recent months. Experts note that it is still too early to speak of a stable downward trend, but this could be a positive sign for the industry.
Crius
The RAM and storage industry has undergone significant changes, affecting various market segments including smartphones, desktop computers, and laptops. In recent months, these sectors have faced negative trends, but new data suggests a possible emergence of positive momentum.
Trends in Memory and Storage Prices
For nine to ten months, there was a steady increase in prices for RAM and storage devices. The main driver behind this growth was the high demand for larger memory capacities and storage solutions, particularly for artificial intelligence systems. During this period, the cost of these products rose considerably.
Slowing Growth in DDR5 Prices
According to price analysis in the German market, the rise in DDR5 module prices has slowed. Monitoring data shows that the average price drop across 20 DDR5 models was 7.2%. This decrease followed six months of continuous growth (from July 2025 to January 2026) and two months of stable prices.
Despite this, current DDR5 prices remain about 408% higher compared to July. After a 4.4-fold increase, the current growth stands at 4.1 times. While the reduction is modest, it is seen as a positive sign after the stagnation observed in February. However, it is too early to conclude that a stable downward trend is forming, and these changes currently apply only to the German market.
Market Impact and Outlook
There are differing opinions in the market regarding the future direction of RAM and storage prices—both stabilization and continued growth over the coming year are possible. Several significant changes have occurred recently:
- The PC gaming segment has faced challenges.
- Smartphone prices have increased.
- Some phone models have been discontinued.
- Several DRAM manufacturers have exited the market entirely.
These developments reflect major shifts in the memory and storage industry, driven by changing demand and technological trends.
