The Lina Peak skyscraper will transform the Swiss village
In the Swiss village of Zermatt, there are plans to build the unique Lina Peak skyscraper, which will stand 260 meters tall and could transform the region’s skyline. The project includes residential apartments as well as facilities for leisure and sports, but its implementation is still uncertain.
Aedis
In recent years, we have become accustomed to seeing new skyscrapers rise in major cities like Dubai, New York, and Shenzhen. However, this time, an ambitious project is planned for a completely unexpected location—a remote Swiss village. The project, called Lina Peak, promises to be a unique phenomenon, unlike any other similar initiative, and could completely transform the face of the region if it comes to life.
A Skyscraper in the Heart of the Alps
Lina Peak is set to be built in Zermatt, a village at the foot of the Matterhorn, popular among skiers, tourists, and mountain air enthusiasts. The idea was conceived by local hotelier and designer Heinz Julen. Constructing a skyscraper in such a picturesque and open setting seems like a bold move, and questions about the project's feasibility are understandable. Nevertheless, Julen is confident that Lina Peak has strong reasons to be realized.
“Lina Peak is a safety valve for Zermatt: it creates space, reduces pressure, and restores the tranquility the village needs so that locals and guests can feel comfortable in the future,” Julen explains.
Architectural Features and Scale
According to the presented drawings, the building will be a sleek, rectangular glass tower. Julen states that Lina Peak will reach a height of 260 meters. While this is not a world record for skyscrapers, in Europe such a building would be significant—approximately the 22nd tallest, and among the highest in Western Europe. The designer also noted that the height could be adjusted if necessary.
The tower is planned to house around 500 apartments for rent and purchase, with half of them intended to remain affordable. The building will also include a facility for seniors, family apartments, and several penthouse lofts.
Infrastructure and Additional Facilities
Next to the tower, a gondola lift line will be constructed, allowing guests to quickly reach the nearest ski slopes. Additionally, the project includes a concert hall with a capacity of up to 2,500 people, a climbing wall, and other sports facilities.
Prospects for Implementation
Will this project actually be realized? History has seen even more unexpected things happen, so it would be unwise to rule out such a possibility entirely. However, Lina Peak still has a long way to go before completion, so it is too early to expect its swift realization.
