Vectus
The Norwegian service company DOF Subsea has reported the total constructive loss of the anchor-handling tug supply (AHTS) vessel Skandi Amazonas following an accident off the coast of Brazil.
Incident Details
On May 15, the Skandi Amazonas ran aground near the municipality of Macaé, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. As a result of the incident, the vessel’s hull was damaged and water began to enter. The ship ended up on a rocky shoal about 400 meters from the shore, close to Campista Beach. To prevent the vessel from sinking, it was intentionally grounded.
There were 29 crew members on board. No injuries were reported. Part of the crew was evacuated, while the rest remained on the vessel to provide initial logistical support.
Damage Assessment and Insurance Payouts
After a damage assessment, it was determined that the cost of restoring the vessel would exceed its insured value under the hull and machinery policy. As a result, the vessel was declared a total constructive loss, which will lead to an insurance payout of $115 million under the hull and machinery coverage.
Fleet Optimization and Transactions
DOF also announced two transactions related to fleet optimization:
- The first deal involves the sale of four platform supply vessels (PSVs): Skandi Mongstad, Skandi Flora, Skandi Feistein, and Skandi Kvitsov. This sale is expected to generate approximately $50 million in net proceeds.
- The second deal is the acquisition from Geveran Trading of two construction support vessels (CSVs) currently being built in China. The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed. Delivery of the vessels is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2027 and the first quarter of 2028.
