GTT Marine, a division of the French GTT Group, has signed a contract to equip Petronas-chartered LNG carriers with a suite of digital solutions.
Under the agreement, the contractor will support the Malaysian energy company in implementing an integrated vessel performance management system. This will help improve fleet operational efficiency, control costs, and reduce emissions. The partnership also allows for future expansion to support an increased number of LNG carriers under Petronas’ charter.
The scope of work includes monitoring vessel performance, enabling crews and fleet managers to set priorities for technical, operational, and service measures, optimize voyages, reduce emissions, and enhance transparency in cargo operations.
Recently, Petronas expanded its fleet of chartered LNG carriers with the delivery of two new vessels—Puteri Johor and its sister ship Puteri Kedah—from the Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding yard in China. Both LNG carriers are owned by joint ventures involving the Japanese company Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line).
In May, Petronas signed a 20-year time charter with its shipping subsidiary MISC for five new LNG carriers, each with a capacity of 174,000 cubic meters. These vessels will be built at the same Chinese shipyard and are scheduled for delivery in 2029 and 2030.
The financial terms of the contract between GTT Marine and Petronas have not been disclosed.
