TGS has launched a large-scale study on the continental shelf of Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada, aiming to update the seismic data for this region.
As part of the second phase of the Orphan3D PSDM reprocessing project (pre-stack depth migration), the company plans to update approximately 13,300 square kilometers of 3D seismic data in the Orphan Basin.
The company is utilizing Full Waveform Inversion (FWI) technology to analyze exploration intervals from the Cretaceous and Jurassic periods, which will enhance image quality and improve understanding of the geological structure of the subsurface in the study area.
Preliminary research results are expected in 2027, with final data to be delivered by the third quarter of the following year.
The company continues to invest in high-quality geoscientific data to support exploration on the Newfoundland and Labrador shelf, as well as to facilitate the provision of information necessary for attracting investment, assessing prospects, and ensuring the long-term development of exploration in the region.
