The United States intends to continue implementing its plan to raise tariffs on car imports from the European Union to 25%. A U.S. representative stated that over the weekend, discussions were held with European and German trade officials to clarify this decision and address compliance issues.
As of 10:00 p.m. Moscow time on Monday, the new tariffs had not yet been officially imposed.
Earlier, the U.S. President announced plans to increase tariffs on cars from the EU from the previously agreed 15% to 25%, citing the European Union’s failure to fulfill the terms of the trade agreement.
The European Commission rejected the claim that the agreement, concluded last summer, had been violated and declared its readiness to take all necessary measures to protect the EU’s interests should Washington breach the terms of the deal.
