How can you stand out in a metropolis where skyscrapers have become a familiar part of the landscape, like in Dubai? You can either build something truly massive, or you can make a building remarkable through a unique design. The architectural firm MVRDV chose the latter approach for the Inaura tower, whose signature feature will be a glowing sphere, reminiscent of a precious gem, embedded between the upper floors of the building.
Architectural Features of Inaura
The Inaura project is planned for the Downtown Dubai district. The tower will be positioned to ensure it is clearly visible from the Burj Khalifa—the tallest building in the world—and will also offer impressive views of this iconic skyscraper.
Inaura will reach a height of 210 meters, which, while significant, is still modest compared to giants like the Burj Khalifa and Tiger Sky Tower. The building will have a sleek, rectangular glass form with balconies running along the perimeter of the facade. Its main highlight will be the luminous sphere, which will serve as a striking Sky Lounge.
Project Concept and Objectives
According to the architects, Dubai’s rapid transformation into a city of high-rises has not lacked spectacular projects. Many skyscrapers have tried to stand out with unusual shapes or intricate finishes. Developer Arada has taken into account the strategic location of the site between Downtown Dubai and Business Bay, as well as its visibility within the urban environment. One of the key questions during the design process was: “How do you create an iconic tower on one of the world’s most recognizable skylines?”
Functionality and Infrastructure
Most of the interior space will be dedicated to apartments, including nine luxurious Sky Villas. The building will also house a hotel. Amenities will include a restaurant, gym, infinity pool, and an exclusive spa center.
Construction Prospects
There is no official word yet on when construction of Inaura will be completed. The project was unveiled during a week rich in architectural announcements in Dubai and follows Mercedes-Benz’s plans to build a dozen towers in the emirate. Meanwhile, in neighboring Saudi Arabia, construction of the next world’s tallest building is nearing completion.
