Until recently, the Gemini voice assistant could only initiate phone calls, but users had to handle the conversation themselves. With the introduction of the new "Call for me" feature, the assistant can now manage the entire process on behalf of the user. The launch of this feature was announced on November 24, 2026, in the official Pixel community.

The "Call for me" feature is different from the existing "Agentic Calling," which, since 2025, has allowed Google to make calls to businesses for specific requests via Google Search or AI Mode, such as checking product availability. However, direct calls from the Gemini app to any number were not possible.

Capabilities and Limitations

With "Call for me," Gemini can handle tasks like checking product availability, requesting offers, making reservations, navigating phone menus, and waiting on hold. This feature can be used for any type of call except those that are prohibited. Gemini is not allowed to make emergency or marketing calls, nor can it complete payments. Sharing credit card numbers, passwords, or medical information is also forbidden.

Call Process

Before the call begins, the app displays the number to be dialed and the information Gemini will provide or request during the conversation. After the user confirms, the virtual call starts. At the beginning of the call, Gemini introduces itself to the other party as the user's AI assistant and notifies them that the call is being recorded. The user can follow the conversation via a text transcript or listen in, and can take over the call at any time.

After the call ends, Gemini provides a brief summary, and both the transcript and the call recording are available in the "Phone" app. According to the company, transcripts are stored on servers, while audio recordings are saved only on the device. These data are not used to train AI models.

Availability and Usage Conditions

The "Call for me" feature is launching in early access mode. To use it, you need a Pixel 11 smartphone with a US SIM card, a Google AI subscription, the public beta version of the "Phone" app, and the device language set to English. Users must be over 18 and located in the US. Currently, Gemini can only call US numbers. There is also a daily call limit, though the exact number is not disclosed. The timeline for the feature’s availability in other countries has not yet been announced.
