At the beginning of this year, new information emerged about what is perhaps the most ambitious architectural project of our time—the JEC Tower skyscraper currently under construction in Saudi Arabia.
Previously known as Kingdom Tower and Jeddah Tower, the JEC Tower (Jeddah Economic Company Tower) is being built in the port city of Jeddah under the leadership of Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal Al Saud. The architectural firm AS+GG (Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill) has once again confirmed that the building’s final height will exceed one kilometer. This will make the tower significantly taller than the current record-holder, the Burj Khalifa, nearly twice as tall as the tallest skyscraper in the USA—One World Trade Center—and more than three times the height of The Shard, the tallest building in Western Europe.
Once completed, JEC Tower will feature 59 elevators and at least 157 floors. The building will house the world’s highest observation deck, a luxury hotel, numerous office spaces, and exclusive residences fit for Saudi royalty.
Construction resumed in January after a lengthy pause and is now progressing rapidly: the central core of the building has reached the 69th floor, while the side wings are about five floors behind. About half of the required concrete volume has already been poured. The AS+GG architects also shared a recent photo taken at the construction site in November, showing the current progress of the work.
Despite the considerable work still ahead, the company has confirmed that the expected completion date—August 2028—remains unchanged. Over the next year, we can anticipate more significant updates on the progress of this unique project.
