Transocean has signed an $80 million contract for the use of its ultra-deepwater drilling rig, Deepwater Conqueror. According to the agreement, the rig will be deployed to Equatorial Guinea for a 170-day drilling campaign scheduled for 2027.
The operations in Equatorial Guinea will commence after the completion of Deepwater Conqueror’s current contract in the US Gulf of Mexico. The name of the operator for the new project has not been disclosed.
Transocean currently owns 27 mobile offshore drilling units, including 20 ultra-deepwater rigs and 7 designed for harsh environment operations.
The company previously noted that Africa is becoming a key region for the growth in demand for new deepwater contracts worldwide. The increase in such projects on the African continent is expected to offset the decline in contracts in the US Gulf of Mexico.
