Implementation of an AI Assistant for Ford and Lincoln Owners
Ford has begun the gradual rollout of a voice assistant powered by artificial intelligence for Ford and Lincoln vehicle owners. The new service is available through the company’s mobile apps and provides information about vehicle features, maintenance needs, fuel consumption, and towing capacity. Full integration of the assistant directly into vehicles is planned for 2027.
Main Features
The AI assistant allows owners to receive information about their vehicles in a natural, conversational format via mobile apps. The system delivers data on fuel requirements for upcoming trips, payload capacity, maintenance schedules, and other parameters. Unlike general-purpose voice assistants, Ford’s chatbot is linked to the user’s specific vehicle, enabling access to real-time telemetry and model information. This allows users to check current fuel levels, payload, towing limits, and upcoming maintenance without having to search for this data themselves.
The voice assistant can also analyze photos to determine whether certain cargo can be transported or towed. Users can upload images of trailers, boats, or other objects to assess the feasibility of safe transportation.
The system also interprets information from the user manual and answers questions about vehicle functions.
Scale of Implementation
Launching the assistant through mobile apps allows Ford to reach a larger number of customers compared to updating in-vehicle software. The company plans to make the feature available to approximately 8 million Ford and Lincoln owners.
Development Prospects
Initially, the assistant operates via the Ford and Lincoln mobile apps, with direct in-vehicle integration expected in 2027. In the long term, Ford plans to deeply integrate artificial intelligence into the vehicle’s dashboard software, combining vehicle-related functions with entertainment features such as navigation, messaging, and media playback.
The company has developed an assistant capable of working with multiple AI platforms, rather than relying on a single language model. Currently, vehicles equipped with the Ford Digital Experience infotainment system based on Android continue to offer Google Gemini as an alternative to Google Assistant.
In the future, Ford intends to replace existing separate voice assistants with a unified AI system that can manage vehicle functions and handle everyday digital tasks through a single conversational interface.
Terms of Use
At the initial stage, the voice assistant is offered free of charge. Whether free access will remain after full integration into the vehicle software platform in 2027 has not yet been decided.
