Google has announced the gradual removal of Google Assistant from Android-based devices, including smartphones, tablets, Wear OS watches, and Android Auto. The service will be replaced by Gemini. This transition will take several weeks, after which it will no longer be possible to restore Google Assistant.
According to official information, the deactivation of Google Assistant on mobile devices will begin on September 4, 2026. Users have been notified of this change via email. After the update, Google Assistant will stop working on phones, tablets, and connected devices, and it will not be possible to reactivate it.
The changes will affect not only mobile devices. Gemini will also replace Google Assistant on Wear OS watches, compatible headphones and headsets, as well as in cars with Android Auto connected to the user's mobile device. In vehicles with pre-installed Google Assistant, the service will remain available even after September 4.
Users of devices that do not meet Gemini's minimum requirements or are located in regions where Gemini is not supported will be able to continue using Google Assistant after the specified date.
