Google Health now syncs bidirectionally with Apple Health
Google Health now supports two-way synchronization with Apple Health on iPhone, allowing Fitbit device owners to seamlessly share up-to-date health data between platforms. Additionally, a Smart Health Links feature has been introduced for secure sharing of medical records.
Crius
Google Health has introduced a two-way synchronization feature between its app and Apple Health for iPhone users. This update allows Fitbit device owners to keep their health data up to date on both platforms. Previously, only one-way sync was available—importing data from Apple Health, HealthKit, and Apple Watch, but sending information collected by Fitbit back to Apple Health was not possible without third-party apps. This limitation had existed since 2014, when Fitbit discontinued support for Apple’s HealthKit platform.
New Synchronization Capabilities
With the release of Google Health version 5.05, users can now directly sync workouts, step counts, sleep data, and other supported metrics collected from Fitbit devices (such as the Versa 2) with Apple Health. However, not all data types are available for transfer—for example, heart rate variability is not yet supported. Synchronization settings can be managed in the “Partner Apps” section of Google Health, where iPhone users can link Apple Health and select the necessary permissions.
Additional Features
Version 5.05 also introduces the Smart Health Links feature for users in the United States. This allows users to share medical records stored in Google Health with healthcare professionals or family members via a URL or QR code.
These updates are part of the ongoing development of the Google Health app following the replacement of the Fitbit app earlier this year, taking into account user feedback and expanding compatibility with other platforms.
