Anbernic has unveiled a new retro console with a clamshell design, featuring several improvements over the previous RG34XX SP model. The device is equipped with an IPS display boasting a resolution of 720 x 480 pixels and a slimmer top bezel compared to the RG34XX SP. It is also thinner than other Game Boy Advance SP-style counterparts. Additional enhancements have been made to other features of the RG SP model.
The retro console lineup continues to expand. At the end of June, the company announced the RG55G1 model, but details about its release date and price—despite its resemblance to the Nintendo Switch Lite—have not yet been disclosed.
The Game Boy Advance SP-style series has been growing since 2024. The first model, the RG35XX SP, launched in May 2024 at a price of under $60. Later, the RG34XX SP appeared, which was simplified in January 2026 and then updated in May with a new metal body (currently priced at $89 on Amazon).
The new RG SP now joins these models. Some hardware specifications have already been revealed: the Allwinner H700 processor, previously used in Anbernic’s Linux-based devices, makes a return. The 3300 mAh battery is also back, now with support for fast charging up to 7.5W. The performance and battery life of the RG SP are expected to be comparable to the RG34XX SP.
The new model features improved tactile buttons. The company has opted for a different layout, moving away from the dual joystick setup found in the RG35XX SP. The top bezel of the screen is now 25% thinner, addressing a shortcoming of the previous model. Additionally, the RG SP is 10% slimmer than its predecessor. The release date and pricing for the device have not yet been announced.
