Nissan Clipper: Mini-camper with an intelligent Multi-Rack system
Nissan has unveiled the compact Clipper camper, featuring the innovative Multi-Rack system that makes it easy to organize both sleeping space and storage. This new model combines versatility, updated technology, and an affordable price.
Vectus
Nissan is expanding its lineup of factory camper vans with the introduction of a new model based on the compact Clipper kei van, which measures less than 3.4 meters in length. To create this micro-camper, the vehicle uses a perforated pegboard panel, familiar from home use, providing a simple and convenient way to mount a bed and organize storage for various outdoor trips.
The Clipper is Nissan’s smallest commercial van for the Japanese domestic market, positioned below the NV200, which is still sold in Japan despite production ending in the US and Europe. Previously known as the NV100 Carry, the name was shortened to Clipper Van in 2024. This van is also known as the Suzuki Every, which is sometimes seen as a micro-camper or mini off-roader.
Multi-Rack Package Features
Nissan has previously offered various camper packages for larger Japanese vans, and now a similar option is available for the Clipper as part of its update. The new package, developed by Nissan Motorsports & Customizing (NMC), is more of a sleep kit than a full-fledged camper van. The main feature is four individual perforated panels installed inside the D-pillars, which inspired the name Multi-Rack.
Unlike standard pegboards used in garages for tool storage, the Clipper’s panels have a unique design with cross-shaped cutouts and round holes. These allow for quick and easy attachment of various hooks and holders for hanging gear or creating more complex storage systems.
The kit includes a 5 cm thick mattress made of several sections, which is placed on longitudinal support beams attached to the pegboard. The mattress, with a water-repellent Cordura fabric cover, completely fills the rear cabin area behind the front seats, creating a sleeping space measuring 180 x 117 cm. The support beams can be adjusted to four different heights for optimal comfort.
Functionality and Uses
The Multi-Rack comes with a stain-resistant cargo floor and is designed to serve as a mini home on wheels, a transporter for DIY projects, a daily hauler for bags, or a versatile work van. The pegboard allows you to attach various accessories for storing and transporting fishing rods, tools, camping gear, and other items. The folded mattress can also be used as a shelf, dividing the cargo area into two levels.
Photos show the Clipper being used as a bike shuttle and a micro-workshop, where the pegboard and mounts allow for transporting two bicycles using a fork-mount system on the floor, as well as organizing tools and accessories.
Technical Updates and Configurations
The Clipper commercial van and the Clipper Rio passenger version have received technical updates as part of the facelift. The improved driver assistance suite now includes standard features such as lane departure prevention, traffic sign recognition, intelligent emergency braking, and collision avoidance for accidental pedal application. The front bumper, black grille, and mirror housings have also been updated.
Availability and Pricing
The Multi-Rack package is available for the Clipper Van with a high roof in GX and GX Turbo trims, each equipped with a three-cylinder Suzuki R06A engine (658 cc) and a CVT. Both front-wheel drive and selectable all-wheel drive versions are offered. Prices start at 2,238,500 yen (approximately $14,075 USD).
