Dr. Vinay Prasad, head of the Office of Vaccines and Biologics at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), will leave the agency at the end of April.
Prasad has led the division responsible for the approval of vaccines and biologic products for about a year. Currently, federal health authorities are searching for his successor.
To work at the FDA, Prasad took a one-year leave from the University of California, San Francisco, with the intention of staying at the agency only for this period. During his tenure, he contributed to the implementation of several new FDA policies that were announced over the past year.
Prasad will depart from the FDA at the end of April, after which a new head of the department will be appointed.
