Google has postponed the release of the first beta version of Android 17, which was expected today. Previously, the company had announced on its official subreddit that the update was coming soon, but did not specify an exact release date.
Internal testing of Android 17 beta 1 has already taken place, and according to reports, the new version is expected to bring noticeable visual improvements. However, the release timeline has changed, and it is now unclear when users will be able to start testing, or what caused the delay.
On the official r/android_beta subreddit, the Google team shared that Android 17 beta 1 is in the final stages of preparation. Although no specific release time was given, the update was anticipated to launch today, February 11, around 1:00 PM Eastern Time. However, Google encountered some issues, which led to the release being postponed.
According to Android Authority, a company representative confirmed the change in schedule, noting that the update will indeed be released soon, but not today.
After the initial announcement, some users expressed doubts about whether Android 17 beta 1 would be released right away, especially given the recent launch of Android 16 QPR3. One commenter suggested that Google typically leaves about a week between major updates, making February 18 or even February 23 a more realistic release date, since the company often rolls out important updates on Mondays or Wednesdays.
Owners of compatible Pixel smartphones will have to wait a bit longer to get the latest version of Android. Since Google has not yet announced a new release schedule, it is difficult to say how much more time will be needed before the beta version becomes available.
