Inspired by the official trailer for The Witcher 4, the project positions itself as an unofficial prequel. The story unfolds in the kingdom of Kovir—a location well-known in the lore but never before featured in the game.

Gameplay and Development Details

On February 6, the mod’s creator released a ten-minute video showcasing gameplay, with detailed looks at the world design, combat system, and quest structure. The footage reveals a compact yet richly detailed area, comparable in size to White Orchard, as well as a fully functional combat system that allows Ciri to wield a silver sword. The mod is designed for higher difficulty levels, and the author recommends enabling enemy level scaling for the best experience.

Creation and Installation

Dawn over Kovir was developed by a single enthusiast who spent around 800 hours on the project. Only existing resources from The Witcher 3 were used—no AI-generated content was involved. Early reviews on Nexus Mods have been overwhelmingly positive, and the mod is available for free. To install, simply extract the archive, copy all files into your Witcher 3: Wild Hunt folder, and launch the game in next-gen version 4.0.4. A new option, “Dawn over Kovir Only,” will appear in the main menu.
