During the Qnap World Tour event in Germany, the company introduced three new NAS systems primarily designed for video production tasks. These devices support both network-attached storage (NAS) and direct-attached storage (DAS) modes. The TS-hx56X series is equipped with two USB4 ports, providing faster data access compared to multi-gigabit Ethernet or even 10GbE connections.
The technical specifications of the new models have only been partially revealed, as the devices were presented solely via slides. However, it is known that all three systems come in a desktop form factor and are equipped with four, six, or eight SATA interfaces for connecting high-capacity hard drives or SSDs. This should ensure high performance even when using SATA drives. Additionally, there are two E1.S slots for installing blade-form SSDs, which can accelerate data loading. However, such drives are typically aimed at corporate and server markets, so their cost remains high and their availability on the mass market is limited.
Currently, SSDs in the E1.S format are already available on the market, such as the Samsung PM93A model, including options with lower capacities like 2 TB. However, these devices are rarely found in German-speaking markets and are mainly supplied for specialized data center projects.
Additional information about the new NAS systems is not yet available. Qnap plans to release these devices in the near future.
