Fallout 4 has received an updated first-person mode thanks to a free modification for PC called "True First Person." With this mod, players can see not only their character’s hands, but also their legs, clothing, and equipment, all while staying in first-person view—even during actions like crafting or entering power armor. This feature was previously unavailable in the standard version of the game, which, since its release in 2015, only displayed the character’s hands in first-person mode.

The "True First Person" mod, available on Nexus Mods, replaces the usual "floating hands" perspective with a full-body view of the character. This new perspective remains active when using workbenches or entering power armor, making the gameplay experience more immersive.

Installing the mod can be done through a mod manager or manually by placing the plugin in the F4SE plugins folder. To launch the game with this mod, you need to use F4SE instead of the standard executable file. Removing the mod is straightforward and does not affect your saved games. However, the mod works only on PC, as F4SE is not available for consoles. The mod’s page notes that it will not be released on Bethesda.net for consoles, so Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch 2 owners will not be able to use it.

Within the FalloutMods community, the mod has generally received positive feedback, though there are ongoing discussions about its unfinished state and compatibility with other mods. Some users have reported issues when switching to third-person mode and conflicts with other modifications, but updates have already been released to fix bugs. Despite some technical challenges, the mod runs stably and delivers a more atmospheric first-person experience that was missing from the original version of Fallout 4.
