The unique Viper V10 motorcycle has been sold for a record-breaking amount.
The unique Millyard Viper V10 motorcycle, equipped with an 8-liter V10 engine from a Dodge Viper, was sold at auction for £149,500. The new owner plans not only to display it in a museum but also to ride it as intended.
Ingenium
With daily news about motorcycles, it's rare for something to truly surprise you. However, the Allen Millyard Dodge Viper V10 motorcycle stands out from the rest thanks to its 8-liter V10 engine from the Dodge Viper and its unique design, handcrafted by Millyard himself.
The Creator and History of the Motorcycle
Allen Millyard is an engineer, TV presenter, and video blogger known for his unconventional motorcycle projects. The Millyard Viper V10 motorcycle was built in 2009. Over more than 17 years of use, it has covered over 14,500 km, including trips to Guernsey, the Isle of Wight, and a lap of the TT course on the Isle of Man. Recently, this motorcycle was sold at an H&H Classics auction in Solihull for £130,000 (about $175,272), and with premiums and fees, the final price reached £149,500 (around $201,563).
Technical Specifications
The new owner received a motorcycle equipped with a V10 engine producing 507 hp (373 kW) and 712 Nm of torque. These figures are comparable to the performance of cars like the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS and Jaguar F-Type R, but here they are delivered on just two wheels. The engine is an 8-liter, 20-valve V10 from the second-generation Dodge Viper GTS, weighing over 318 kg, while the total weight of the motorcycle slightly exceeds 600 kg.
The design does not include a traditional gearbox—instead, it uses a single fixed gear, made possible by the engine's high torque at low revs. The standard cast iron flywheel was replaced with a custom-made aluminum one to reduce the reactive torque that became apparent during initial tests.
The motorcycle's top speed can be adjusted between 257 km/h and a theoretical 434+ km/h, depending on the rear sprocket. In 2009, tests recorded a top speed of 333.3 km/h. In 2023, a Guinness World Record was set for the highest speed on a tandem motorcycle—295.3 km/h.
Design Features
The suspension is entirely custom-made. The front uses 75 mm tubes from JCB hydraulic cylinders, shock absorber rods from an Opel Omega, and springs from Hagon. At the rear, there are two Yamaha R1 shock absorbers adapted for this model, as well as hand-crafted exhaust manifolds with ceramic coating capable of withstanding high temperatures.
The Motorcycle's Future
The buyer, Tim Whittaker, plans to loan the motorcycle to the National Motorcycle Museum for the winter so visitors can see it. He also intends to use the motorcycle as intended, not just keep it in a collection.
Thus, the unique Millyard Viper V10 will remain accessible to the public and continue to be used for its original purpose.
