Reports have emerged about Apple's progress in developing AirPods with integrated cameras. The new model of earbuds could be unveiled as early as this year, with September being considered a possible announcement date alongside other next-generation devices.
Recently, there has been little information about the AirPods version with cameras. Earlier, it was reported that the project had been put on hold, but work on the device is ongoing, and a launch could happen in the near future.
Internally, the new model has been given the code name B798 and is the first to feature references to a camera-equipped design. At the same time, another version is being developed under the code name B790, which, according to available data, is at a more advanced stage. The B790 model was found in the code of the second beta version of iOS 27 for developers and is included in Apple’s roadmap for this year.
Earlier this month, there were reports about the suspension of the AirPods with cameras project, despite previous suggestions of a possible release in 2024. Initially, it was expected that the B798 model would launch this year, but its release has been postponed to 2027.
Meanwhile, another, likely more affordable version of AirPods with cameras could be introduced as soon as this year. Thus, there is a possibility that the new camera-equipped earbuds will be announced in September alongside the latest iPhone models.
