LG has introduced the new 32RS1Q-B electronic display, designed for digital signage and based on E Ink's Spectra 6 technology. The device's technical specifications indicate that this particular panel is used, although the panel manufacturer is not specified in the press release.
Features of Spectra 6 Technology
Spectra 6 is a relatively new development, first showcased as a prototype at Display Week 2023 in Los Angeles. Since then, the technology has been implemented in commercial products, including digital photo frames and similar devices. The 32RS1Q-B display is intended exclusively for indoor use and is rated to operate at temperatures from 0°C to 40°C and humidity up to 70%. Unlike other E Ink panels, Spectra 6 delivers brighter color reproduction, though it is less resistant to external influences.
Image Quality and Applications
The panel offers high-quality color rendering, reminiscent of printed surfaces under good lighting conditions. The screen resolution is 2560 x 1440 pixels, and the image structure becomes noticeable only at close range. This display is suitable for content that requires periodic updates, such as menus, advertising announcements, promotional offers in hotels, or store signage. Image updates are accompanied by a brief flicker of the panel and take some time to complete. It is not recommended to place the device in shop windows under direct sunlight due to the risk of overheating.
Design and Battery Life
The display is 1.8 cm thick and weighs 3.1 kg, making it easy to integrate into various interiors. The built-in 72 Wh battery allows the device to operate without a constant power connection, simplifying relocation and reducing the risk of tripping over cables. In standby mode, the display consumes 0.5 W, and up to 6 W during image updates. The expected battery life is at least 10 hours. An intelligent power-saving mode is implemented, maintaining minimal energy consumption when the image is not being updated.
Control and Interfaces
Centralized management of multiple displays is possible. The devices support Wi-Fi and run on an adapted version of webOS, the same system used in LG TVs. The rear panel features a Qi2 magnetic interface for convenient control. The external Qi2 battery provides up to 15 W of wireless charging, but this function is intended to extend display operation time rather than charge the internal battery. The internal battery is charged via a USB Type-C port.
Data Transfer and Pricing
Data can be transferred via Wi-Fi or USB Type-C. Bluetooth support is planned for addition with a firmware update in 2026. The price of the display has not yet been announced, which is typical for project-based sales with significant discounts for large orders.
