Maverick Games, founded by former Forza Horizon developers, has announced its first project—a story-driven open-world racing game called Clutch. The team spent several weeks preparing for the reveal and shared some initial details about the new game, with more in-depth information expected at the upcoming Summer Game Fest event.
The released trailer features scenes from Clutch, though it’s not specified whether these are actual gameplay or engine-generated footage. The game’s narrative centers on two brothers and a sister, all gifted with exceptional racing skills, who unexpectedly find themselves drawn into the underground world hidden behind the prestigious R1K racing series.
Clutch will blend legal daytime races with illicit nighttime street competitions. Players can expect police chases, the use of various gadgets, car tuning, and other gameplay elements. The project combines aspects of Gran Turismo with classic Need for Speed titles like Underground and the Hot Pursuit series. An advanced car customization system was also showcased, allowing players to modify both the interior and exterior of their vehicles.
The game is being developed on Unreal Engine 5. The release date and supported platforms have not yet been announced. Additional details about Clutch will be revealed at Summer Game Fest, which kicks off on June 5.
