Sam Altman has stepped down from the board of directors at Helion Energy, a company developing nuclear fusion technologies that he has supported since 2015. This decision is linked to the fact that OpenAI is considering a large-scale collaboration with Helion Energy.
Altman, who serves as CEO of OpenAI and is also a member of its board, explained that holding both positions has become untenable as OpenAI explores a potential partnership with Helion. He also noted that he will retain his financial interest in Helion but will not participate in negotiations between the two companies.
OpenAI is currently in talks to purchase electricity from Helion Energy.
