Details about the development and technical specifications of the PlayStation 6 began to emerge at the end of 2025, sparking a wave of rumors online. According to the latest information, Sony plans to enable 4K resolution output at 120 frames per second with ray tracing support for its new console.
Discussions about Sony’s next-generation home console have intensified once again. Reports suggest the company is aiming for 4K 120 FPS performance with ray tracing enabled. Earlier leaks indicated that the PlayStation 6’s rasterization performance could be 2.5 to 3 times higher than that of the PlayStation 5. In terms of ray tracing, performance is expected to increase by 6 to 12 times compared to the previous model.
Compared to the PlayStation 5 Pro, it is anticipated that rasterization performance will roughly double, while ray tracing speeds could be 3 to 6 times faster. These improvements may be achieved thanks to a next-generation graphics processor based on the RDNA 5 architecture, paired with a Zen 6 CPU.
However, it is noted that achieving native 4K 120 FPS with ray tracing is unlikely. The console is expected to make extensive use of Sony’s proprietary AI upscaling technology—PSSR—to deliver high-resolution visuals.
There has also been speculation about a possible delay in the PlayStation 6’s release. However, current information suggests that the launch timeline is unlikely to change, with Sony still targeting late 2027 to early 2028 for the new console’s debut. The discussions have also touched on rumors of a potential portable version of the PlayStation 6.
