Instagram is now available on Google TV devices
Meta has launched a test version of the Instagram app for Google TV, currently available only in the United States. Users can add up to five accounts and watch Reels on a big screen. In the future, the company plans to expand both the app’s features and its geographic availability.
Crius
After launching the Instagram app for Fire TV devices in December 2023, Meta has introduced a similar application for the Google TV platform. Currently, access to the new product is limited to the United States, as the app is still in the testing phase.
The expansion of Instagram support to Google TV devices followed the release of the version for Amazon Fire TV. However, for now, only users in the US can use the app. According to the official Instagram blog, testing began in the US, with plans to expand to other devices and countries in the future.
Features
According to the published video, the Instagram app for TV supports multiple users: the home screen displays four profiles and a button to add a new account. Users can add up to five accounts and even create a separate profile specifically for use on the TV.
After selecting a profile, Reels from favorite creators are loaded, grouped by channels based on the user's interests. There is also a search bar to find specific creators or browse profiles.
Development Plans
In the future, additional features are planned, including the ability to use a smartphone as a remote control and shared feeds with friends.
