Microsoft is preparing to launch an Xbox with two Call of Duty games
Microsoft is considering launching a new Xbox console in 2027, accompanied by the simultaneous release of two Call of Duty games, including a separate project featuring a zombie mode. These strategic changes are linked to adjustments in the release schedule and a desire to strengthen Xbox’s position in the market.

Microsoft is considering using the Call of Duty series to boost sales of its upcoming gaming devices. According to available information, Activision had originally planned to release Modern Warfare 4 alongside the next-generation Xbox. However, the launch has been postponed to 2027, and now the publisher may support the console’s debut with two games, including a separate project featuring a zombie mode.
The new Xbox console is expected to arrive in 2027, as previously hinted by AMD. Earlier reports suggested that Microsoft was targeting the end of 2026, but the delay has also affected the release schedule for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Initially, Modern Warfare 4 was supposed to launch simultaneously with Microsoft’s new gaming system. Despite competition from GTA 6, the release of a new shooter and hardware could attract buyers. With the revised plans, it’s possible that several Call of Duty games will launch alongside the console.
Recent reports indicate that Activision is rethinking its strategy for supporting the new Xbox console. Players can expect a multiplayer Call of Duty title and a separate zombie-mode project, likely from Treyarch. While zombie mode is usually included in games like Black Ops 7, there has long been discussion about releasing a standalone cooperative survival project.
In response to the low sales of Black Ops 7, the publisher announced adjustments to the pace of new game releases. There are also reports that Microsoft is considering abandoning the annual release schedule. The earlier conclusion of the DMZ mode may have satisfied demand for extraction shooter games.
In 2024, the new gaming system was first named “Xbox Prime.” At that time, it was assumed that the next Call of Duty game would launch in 2026, once the project was ready. This information was later refuted, and reliable details about the Activision franchise remain scarce.
Currently, Xbox is undergoing a period of change: the CEO of Microsoft Gaming has left the company, and a new leader has taken over, emphasizing the importance of hardware for the brand. Nevertheless, shortages of memory and storage could delay the release of the hybrid console and Magnus Xbox PC until 2027 or later.
