CarPlay will get a video player in iOS 26.4, but with limitations
iOS 26.4 is expected to add support for video playback via CarPlay, but this feature will only be available when the car is parked. The decision to implement this function will be up to car manufacturers, so it may not appear in all vehicles right away.

The upcoming iOS update, version 26.4, may introduce video playback functionality within the CarPlay system. In the first beta release of iOS 26.4, code was discovered suggesting the possibility of watching videos through Apple TV and certain other apps in CarPlay. However, this feature will only be available when the car is parked.
With the release of iOS 26.4, CarPlay users are expected to be able to use their car’s display to watch videos. The code also references support for video in features such as climate control, notifications, and the TV App, presumably Apple TV.
Apple has announced that video playback will arrive in CarPlay with one of the iOS 26 versions. According to the CarPlay developer website, the AirPlay feature will allow users to stream video from their iPhone to the car’s display when the driver is not behind the wheel. Developers are encouraged to integrate CarPlay support with AirPlay video to enable this feature in vehicles.
A significant limitation is that video playback via CarPlay will only be possible when the car is parked. This means that watching videos while driving will not be available, including for passengers, who won’t be able to use the car’s display as an entertainment center or video player on the go.
The decision to support this new feature ultimately rests with car manufacturers, so video playback may not be available in all vehicles immediately after the update is released.
